Mid-Autumn Festival is coming up this Friday, 25 September, and The Orientalist Spirits is marking it with a three-day cocktail collaboration across three London bars. From 24-26 September, Opium Bar in Chinatown, Kioku Sake Bar at Raffles London and As Above So Below in Stoke Newington will each serve a cocktail created for the occasion, with all three drinks available at every venue throughout the collaboration.

Head to any of the three and you can work your way through the full selection, which takes inspiration from different parts of Asia while using The Orientalist’s spirits as the common thread.

What’s on the menu?

At Opium, the cocktail is a Coconut Cosmo, combining The Orientalist Vodka and Fenjiu Baijiu with coconut and cranberry sherbet. It’s the Chinese-inspired drink of the three, fitting neatly into Opium’s Chinatown setting. The bar, hidden behind its jade door on Gerrard Street, is spread across three floors and is known for its Chinese-inspired cocktails and dim sum.

Over at Kioku Sake Bar, on the ground floor of The OWO in Whitehall, the Mochi Sour takes a more peculiar route. Red bean amazake, house amaretto, Fenjiu Baijiu, The Orientalist Imperial Solera 23 Rum and mocha vinegar all go into the drink, bringing together some decidedly dessert-like flavours with the structure of a sour. Kioku’s bar sits beneath its Japanese restaurant and is open from Wednesday to Saturday, making it the Whitehall stop for the collaboration.

The third cocktail is at As Above So Below, the cocktail bar hidden beneath Cuts & Bruises barbershop on Stoke Newington High Street. Its Barley Martini combines The Orientalist Vodka with toasted barley and Palo Cortado sherry. The 30-cover bar, which opened in late 2024, has become known for its riffs on classic cocktails and deliberately tucked-away location.

Founded by Michel Lu, The Orientalist focuses on ingredients and distilling traditions from across Asia. Its Origins Vodka, for example, combines potato distillates with longan honey and Tibetan highland barley, while the Imperial Solera 23 Rum used in the Mochi Sour is made from rums sourced from Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia.

A special mooncake offer

If you’re feeling peckish, or crave a little bite to accompany the drink, there are also mooncakes to be had. On Friday 25 September, the first 12 guests at each bar to order from the Mid-Autumn menu will receive a complimentary mooncake. The flavours include custard, black tea and cheese, matcha and chocolate. If you’re in the Chinatown area and want to plan out a proper Mid-Autumn bar-hopping experience, there are also other offers to consider, including Noodle & Beer’s cocktail and mooncake pairing.

The collaboration follows The Orientalist’s Taste The Orient festival in June, which brought together Asian bars and restaurants across London, with As Above So Below among the participating venues.
